NAS 1000s

Guys I hope you can advise me on a problem I'm having with a NAS 1000s.
Firstly I should say I'm new to NAS systems, the problem is a strange one, one of our NAS servers is having "an unexpected shutdown" every weekday morning between 0622 and 0632.
I just can't seem to get to the cause. The event logs have no entries other than the 6008 notification when its back on.

Appreciate any help.

Matt
Do you have a scheduled shutdown set each day?

Re: NAS 1000s

Hey Matt,
Starting with the simple,
- The outlet you are plugged into isn't turning off is it?
- Is the outlet shared with, say an outlet a cleaning person could plug a vacuum into? ;)
- Is the system plugged into and connected to a UPS?
- Are there applications on the system that might be violently shutting the system down (virus scan, system stability scans)
- Lastly, review the running processes and see if one of those is a virus of some kind

Re: NAS 1000s

Hi Jon,
Everything seems fine, power is Ok and clean, can't find any trace of Virus or rouge procs. I'm starting to think there may be a problem with the Raid controller but that wouldn't explain the timing side of the problem.
I have noticed a raid event however I'm almost convinced that is down to the restart....
I'm starting to loose my hair (and I can't afford that!!)

Cheers

Re: NAS 1000s

Hi Matt,
1000s uses the on-board parallel ATA (IDE) controller. Any RAID messages you would be getting are related to the OS software RAID.
Do you have a virus scan, backup, or other application that may be walking the harddrives? I'm thinking that something may be hitting a bad section of the disks and causing the system to reboot. It would not have to start at ~6:30, just get to that bad section around that time.

Re: NAS 1000s

Hmm, we are also having this problem with our NAS1000s. Running W2k Server, NTFS, for groups directory storage. Am checking through logs on it now and forums. Instead of daily, it seems to be weekoly, like on a Saturday.

I have been through the Bios, and as many forums as I can find and still no remedy.
