NAS 3-in-1 Docking Station - Disk Power Management greyed out

Problem:
When Laptop is connected, the Fan runs on full speed. Thus the noise level is unacceptable for a docking station sitting on a user desk.
NAS has latest FW loaded.
But it is not possible to turn of the hard disk as described in the reference guide, as the disk power management is greyed out. Pls refer to attached screenshots for details.

Ever solved it?
The fan of the docking station itself is very quiet for me and usually starts soon after turning the docking station on. The real nuisance is the hard disk, which is very loud when spinning and most of all makes a lot of vibrations (really, no joke, you get a massage of your hands). Fortunately for me the hard disk spins down as selected in the options.
