NFS user map settings vanish on AIO Storage System

Hello all. Thanks in advance.

We have a relatively new AIO Storage System. Since configuring an NFS share last week, the user name mapping settings have disappeared twice. After setting the mapping up again the share functions as before.

This is obviously causing an interruption in the use of the share.

There are errors in the Event Log, although none of them seemed to be related to NFS. I will stick them at the bottom of this post.

This box has some history. Immediately after initial configuration, we had issues with the AIO Storage Management software that ended up with us using the restore DVD (on the recommendation of HP tech support.) It seemed to be fine after the restore until this NFS issue arose.

Help About in HP Storage Server Management says version 1.1.16 though we've installed the 1.20 service replaced. Windows 2003 SP2.

Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Andrew

Re: NFS user map settings vanish on AIO Storage System

I am sorry that you are having trouble with your system. It is not clear from your description how the mappings were created. Could you please clarify ? Also please confirm that, if you are using group and password files, the files are on a local file system and not a share or iSCSI lun.

Regarding the event log, the first error is typical of a system with a large number of quotas. How many quotas do you have ?

Finally, it would be best to proceed by contacting your HP support representative and opening a case. It would be helpful to be prepared to provide them with this information:

1. output form these commands:
> mapadmin config
> mapadmin list -all
2. A copy of the map files listed in the first mapadmin output
3. A copy of c:\windows\msnfs\.maphosts
4. The event logs from the AiO server.
5. The ASMServerlog.txt file (see below)

Also registering with the Business Support Center would be a good idea. Go to http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=support and enter your product name. You should find the link to register there.

To collect an ASMServerLog.txt file follow these instructions.

1. Find the file hpkas-config.xml (typically in C:\Program Files\HP\HP All-in-One Storage Manager)
2. Make a copy of the file.
3. Open the file with notepad or wordpad.
4. Find the LoggingLevel tag (about line 6)
5. Change Warning to Tracing
6. Save and close the file
7. Make sure the HP All-in-One Storage System Management MMC console window is closed.
8. Restart the HP All-in-One Storage Manager Server service
8a. Open a windows explorer window (not IE)
8b. Enter "Services" in the address bar and press return
8c. Find the HP AiO Storage Manager Server service
8d. Click on the Actions->All Tasks->Restart menu item.
9. Verify that the C:\ASMServerLog.txt file exists
10. Run your system and reproduce the problem.
11. Once again, close the MMC console.
12. Replace the hpkas-config.xml with the copy you made in step 2.
13. Repeast step 8 to restart the service.

Continuous logging may negatively affect the performance of your system.

This was the issue. Thank you.

Our other issues we've submitted to HP.

Thanks again!
