Problems with Backup on HD Server 4000

Hi,

I have a couple of HD Server 4000's. After a disk failure I cannabalized down to one. But I get the following problem, that has now occurred on both servers. I have a new DAT drive, but that did not seem to help. The problem is with the "weof failed". Please see log below:

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Re: Problems with Backup on HD Server 4000

Paul,
looks like write failed, and then mt command failed to write eof (weof). Please try new (just unpacked) supported DDS media. Is this new DAT drive received from HP support? Who installed it? I suspect 'native' drive may have HP firmware on it

Re: Problems with Backup on HD Server 4000

Hi Eugeny,

Thanks for your very rapid response. Unfortunately I did not have any new DDS tapes, but I tried a different one, hp dds-4 C5718A, and received the same error, again after just over two hours. The new DAT Drive came from HP, and is a surestore DAT40.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Paul

Re: Problems with Backup on HD Server 4000

If this unit is under HP warranty then I would recommend you to call HP.
If drive is writing for 2 hours and then fails at the end I may suspect that tape got full... Please note that if you have packed files backing up on HD4000 then max you can write to tape is 20GB (20GB with ratio 1:1, 40GB with ratio 2:1).
I guess special tools should be used to diagnose DAT40 in HD4000.
The first thing HP support will ask 'did you use new blank media' so I recommend you to try your backups with new just unpacked HP media

Re: Problems with Backup on HD Server 4000

Hi Eugeny,

Thanks again, I fear that you might be correct about the tape being full. I feel foolish for not thinking of it. The drives currently hold about 32GB of data, but much of it is JPEG images which would not compress well.

I'm changing to partial backups and feel sure that this will fix it.

Re: Problems with Backup on HD Server 4000

I have had this exact same issue using brand new tapes. This NAS came to us only a week ago and no one here has experieince with it. Is there an issue of filling up a tape? Will it not pause the job and request a second tape tp be inserted?
