Resetting NAS S1000

I need to completely reset a NAS S1000, and I can't find anything in the documentation. Any ideas?

Re: Resetting NAS S1000

Larry,

I presume you ment "restoring OS to factory default" rather than actual resetting of anything. Here are some links which will guide you and give all info needed.

General info page for the product, you can download some manuals too:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=341801тМй=en&cc=us

In "Update and Migrate" see "Availability of NAS Quick-Recovery Disks":
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=130&prodSeriesId=341801&prodTypeId=12169&objectID=PSD_OE040630_CW04

... which in part should lead you over to "Network Attached Storage Quick Restore Media", scroll to the bottom for NAS 1000s Quick Restore Disc:
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductsList.do?category=NAS

It is a free "burn on demand" service solution from HP. Also read my prior posts on experience with NAS restores - I am sure you will be able to figure things out what you need to do or what hardware you'd need:

Good luck.

Re: Resetting NAS S1000

Sorry, my mistake. I realized it's an s1000 after I posted. It is a P-3 class hardware, where 1000S is a socket 478 P-4. I came to the came observations - there is no upgrade path or OS restore option mentioned anywhere. The only support coverage was a 1-y warranty last mentioned some time in April 2003. Latest QuickSpec bulletin is only of July 2002 - I have included it here. I'd say it is not that promising.

You can still try doing the 1000S restore if you can afford to wipe the unit and slate it for R&D later (if restore does not work out using factory drives). I am betting that your BIOS is compatible and Win 2000 SP3 is "flexible" enough to accomodate a P-3 chipset unless your version is a 320GB (Celeron CPU). The safer way would be to use any 4 blank identical drives (even temporarily borrowed) so you don't kill the factory install in case it is working and still have a roll-back plan. You'd need to label the original drives and reassemble the replacements. Then follow the same path as for 1000S above.

That would give you OS mirror and raided data partition. Then follow system software upgrade from 1000S at http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/73_5622.html , just don't install (NSI Double-Take/StorageWorks) Data Copy-S - you'd need to have a separate (long since) discontinued license for it.

I have done a successfull similar scenario with replacement of original drives on a 1000S with double capacity ones. But that is a much more recent piece of hardware. I don't have your version for a lab to try.
Sorry for the confusion.

Hi, Larry, did you get your S1000 restored? I am facing the same problem here.

Re: Resetting NAS S1000

I also suffering from Blue Screen Condition on a NAS1200s described in article;

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00616839

Will the DVD drive from my DL360 work in the above suggested USB Multibay solution?
