Upgrading from 2003 to WSS 2003 R2

I have a NAS 2000s and we want to upgrade from 2003 SP1 to WSS 2003 R2. I have the part number to order WSS 2003 R2 but I was wondering if there is a document on the upgrade procedure I could read up on. My understanding was that I would lose all the shares and have to recreate them.

Thanks,
Ed

Re: Upgrading from 2003 to WSS 2003 R2

Hi Ed,

Here's a link to the R2 Upgrade Guide. Section 3 is applicable to the 2000s. It is a wipe and replace operation, so yes, concerning the shares. Windows security (ACLs), quota, user mapping information are recoverable from the full system backup you'll do before the upgrade.

Ed,
In the documentation it mentions that you can "Export all file shares from the following Registry Key (to be restored after reimage) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following key:
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares"

Is this document still available? The link seems to be broken.
