backup hangs on HP Data Vault X310

The backups for all (4) attached computers hangs at 8%: reorganizing data on the server. I noticed none of the automatic back-ups had successfully completed for about a week. I therfore did manuaI backups for each of the attached computers (all run a version of Windows 7). I waited 3 hours for each attempt and then cancelled the backup. I ran a server clean-up session. I rebooted the server. All to no avail.

All disks (5 1TB) are healthy; there is enough free space: 329 GB available; no scans in-progress; no updates in-progress.
