mac finder crashes when connecting to NAS 1200s

We have 2 Macs running MacOS 9 which need to connect to our NAS 1200s, but after a short period of using the file share with an application such as Quark, the finder throws up an error saying it 'needs attention', the mouse pointer freezes, and the Mac hangs completely.

The NAS is configured with the built in Services for Macintosh. The only non-default setting is setting passwords to Apple Clear Text.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Re: mac finder crashes when connecting to NAS 1200s

With limited information, may be some useful information performed a search on Microsoft, Quark and Google sites. Here's a few things to check:

1) Finder Problems-Error 41
http://www.centralcoastweb.com/pages/tips.html :
"It seems that no matter how well you treat your Mac, occasionally it has problems. One of the most common problems faced by users is a corruption of the Finder or Finder Preferences. This may be caused by many things, including (but not limited to):
--An application, (Quark for example) that crashes or hangs and forces you to reboot."

2) Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;247897

3) Quark:
Reporting crash problems on Mac OS
Mac OS├В┬о X includes a utility that creates a crash report when an application unexpectedly quits. If QuarkXPress├в ┬в unexpectedly quits, you can use this utility to assist Quark├в ┬в Technical Support in troubleshooting your problem.

To create Mac OS crash reports, launch the Console utility, located in the ├в Utilities├в folder within the Mac OS X ├в Applications├в folder. Once Console is running, choose Console > Preferences to display the Console Preferences dialog box, and then click the Crashes tab. Check Enable crash reporting. Choose File > Quit to quit Console.

After you have set the Console preferences to report crashes, the crash log file is updated any time QuarkXPress unexpectedly quits. This log file is located in Users > > Library > Logs > Crash Reporter. To report a crash, keep the report handy when you call, or copy and paste the text from the log file and send it in an e-mail message to Quark Technical Supp
