recover data lost when i plugged a disk

I'm really confused by my mistake but I plugged a disk into my new hp media vaul (2nd gen). The disk has been formatted... and i had importan data on it.
Is there a way to recover this data (at least part of it) ?

I don't think you can recover the data. Depending how the media vault formatted the disk, the data might still be there but you have lost the structure of the disk that would allow you to get to your data. It seems to me you need to call a data recovery company that specialize in these cases.
