14 gb colorado tape problems

I have got a 14gig internal colorado hp tape drive which I have been using for several years.Today I tried to make a backup and the message came up"This media cannot be used with the device.Please insert another media to continue".When I looked at the tape there were two small round holes in the tape-so I installed another tape.The same message came up and this tape also had two small holes in the tape.I looked inside of the tape backup and on the right side was what looks like a plunger-Has anyone ever run into anything like this before?Thanks for any help on this!Michael Anderson
