160/320 drive for 110/220? (msl5026 s2)

Hi ,

My question about the format of msl5026s2 tape library. my customer has remote office which has 110/220 sdlt drive. and he wants to make one copy of my datas for sending over there. and he wants them readable in that 110/220 drive. Is it possible to write 110/220 cartridge in MSL5026S2 tape library?

Thank you,

Hi,
The easiest method is if the media is initialized (write something to the media) in a 110/220 drive. If you then put the media in a 160/320 drive, the drive will recognize it as a 110/220 media and continue using that format.

Format the tape first in a SDLT 110/220 drive. The SDLT 160/320 drive will continue now to write in a format that a SDLT 110/220 can read.

Re: 160/320 drive for 110/220? (msl5026 s2)

hi,
thank you for your interest. customer side uses windows o/s. The "first format in 110/220_sdlt_then_use_it_in_160/320_drive" solution doesn't seem very feasible. because the offsite area is a little far and not everytime they have IT personnel over there. What is your advice?

Hi,
The alternative is to use the "Density select" tool avialable on the "Density select CD included in the SDLT kit. You can find details in the SDLT Reference Guide.
