40/80 DLT vs DLT1

It appears I can't use the tapes from my old Compaq(TL891DLX) 40/80 GB DLT tape drive on my newer(SSL1016 Superloader 1280) DLT1 SCSI seq device? Same Backup software and tapes.

TL891DLX
Supports DLT III, DLT III XT and DLT IV

SSL1016 Tape Autoloader DLT1
- DLT IV tapes in DLT1 format: read/write compatible
- 20/40GB DLT IV tapes in DLT4000 format: Read only.
If the flop doesn't fit... go allin!!!
