6/60 library with both SCSI and fibre interfaces - is it possible?

Hello All !

Is it possible to equip 6/60 library with 2 DLT8000 drives with SCSI and FC-AL interfaces sumultaneously?

Best regards, Boris

Boris, a 6/60 fibre channel library with 2 dlt 8k drives has the fibre to scsi bridge on a card that is installed in the library. the drives are connected via scsi from this bridge card. in essence it has both fibre and scsi. the fibre comes in from the fibre hba or switch into the library card and then goes scsi to the the dlt drives and library controller card for robotics control. If you decide later to not use Fibre then the fibre card can be removed and scsi only can be used.

Boris,

I am quite sure that if you choose to
connect your f/c to a switch that it
must be done using fabric not as
arbitrated loop.

Hello Boris,

Marco is right, you can run this unit in both Fibre and SCSI mode. You can either configure both drives to Fibre or SCSI OR....

....Connect one drive to the fibre card and one drive via a SCSI to a separate host. The Library controller needs to be daisy-chained to either to have control.

The big BUT here is that the Library will operate in 'Partial Availabillity' mode. This is because the Library only sees 1 drive being connected to the Fibre card whilst internally it sees 2 drives.

The bad thing about that is that when the Library is always in 'Partial availabillity' mode. Therefore when something goes wrong in your library, you might not notice bause the library is always in this 'warning' state anyway.

it is tricky but it can be done although it is not a 'HP supported' configuration.

Cheers,

-Cal.
