90:59 critical error - MSL 5000 cannot use the changer

I have a one drive unit with 25 slots (20 tapes). If I add a device in Omniback as a standalone device (no changer) the backup works. If I add a device (the same tape drive) in Omniback and configure as a SCSI library I get an error when trying to scan, format, etc the slots [90:59] cannot open changer control device. Win2k isn't complaining aboutn this device. Help????

Hi Ben

Did you use the wizard, manual or sanconf.exe
What is the status of tape drive and changer
in NT devices?
What Omniback version are you using.
For starters check your termination and cabling on drive and bridge (even check your msl scsi ID's 0). Or is it attached by a NSR/MDR

Brian

I have tried both the manual and wizard modes to add a device in DP 5.1. The status in Win2K using Computer Mgmt looks ok. As I stated before.

Actually since this posting, I have read thru the ITRC's and gotten to a new error than the one reported.

I am now getting an error Major: 90:63 - Cannot load exchanger medium (target drive is Busy)

Hi

Your problem is I think related to a scsi
configuration. How does your NSR mapping looks like. Also look under devices in w2k
under tape and changer for the b-t-l (scsi properties)
Did you stop the RMS service?
Let me know...

Re: 90:59 critical error - MSL 5000 cannot use the changer

Ben,

Check that:

-the Removable Storage Service disabled is
-The Windows driver for the medium changer is not installed (or disable it)
-Disable or Uninstall Windows drivers for the tape drive as well.

Reboot now your server and redefine the library. The paths to the robot arm and drive should start with 'scsi'. It will work fine now.
