AIT35 Cleaning tape needs replacement

I use Insight Manager to monitor the servers in the Royal Caribbean fleet. I have several DL380 G2's that are indicating that the cleaning tape needs replacing. These systems are using the AIT35 Hotplug tape drive, OS is Win2000, agents and drivers are version 6.2+. According to the information that I have acquired, the AIT cleaning tape only gets used if the drive or the backup software requests a cleaning. Other than that, inserting the cleaning tape in the drive accomplishes nothing, other than a load and unload of the tape. How can the cleaning tape need replacement when the drive has never required or asked for a cleaning, the cleaning tape has not been used. Worse, these tapes are supposed to be good for something like 70 uses! I have not been able to find a resolution for this and as a result I have serveral servers that indicate degraded all the time. Any help will be appreciated!
