Adaptec 2940UW and HPC1555D/Q1547A
I am trying to connect a DAT24 drive to a 2940UW adaptor. There are no other devices in the chain and the tape unit is using default ID3. The adaptor is set to auto terminate but I can't get the drive recognized. I am using the wide 50 pin ribbon cable with the tape unit at the end. I have tried with and without term power supplied on the tape but with no luck. Do I need to put the tape drive in the middle of the cable and place a terminator at the end of the ribbon cable?
help, thanks.
Attached is a picture of the tape drive label.

Re: Adaptec 2940UW and HPC1555D/Q1547A
Autotermination in a HBA is not for the tape side, but it is for the HBA side. (a scsi bus should be terminated at both ends of the chain)
You should attach a terminator to the last connector and the drive in the middle, this is the right way to connect it.
When done, boot the server, and press CTRL-A at boot time, you will access the bios of the controller and you will be able to check wich component is apparing in the scsi chain.
If you are mixing wide and narrow devices, be carefull with the connections.
