Adding MSL2024 Tape Drive to DL385 Gen8 - SAS cable issues?

Is the HP Smart Array P222 SAS card hot-pluggable on the DL385 server? I need to connect a MSL 2024 Tape Drive by SAS cable. What is the process? Does one or both server and drive need to be turned off first? Or is it hot-pluggable?
