ArcServeIT Media Full

We are backing up 2 servers - one with 18g of storage, the other with 36g of storage - with ArcServeIT 6.6 We have 2 defined tape groups, one with a SS DAT24 and one with a SS DAT40 (both external). The backup of the 18g server starts at 8pm onto the DAT24 and finishes completely around 11:30pm. The backup of the 36g server starts at 11:55pm and within 5 minutes reports the media is full. Additionally we have tried to do a custom (non-AutoPilot) backup with the same results as well as using 2 brand new tapes all with the same result. Any ideas?

Re: ArcServeIT Media Full

It doesn't sound like ArcServe is handling the backups correctly, especially when a servers backup is spanning two seperate tape drives.

What kind of servers are these, and what OS?

Re: ArcServeIT Media Full

The servers aren't spanning as neither are close to full capacity, but together there is more data than the SS DAT40 can handle on one tape. To avoid having to put in a second tape, we decided to put the old tape backup (SS DAT24) back into service backing up one server while the newer, larger tape backup would back up the larger capacity server. Individually, both tape backups did their job just fine, but now that they are both in service, the DAT24 is working properly and the DAT40 is not.

Re: ArcServeIT Media Full

Hello,

It seems as if ArcServeIT thinks that the tape media is not quering the right drive, and is continuing to write on the same tape on the DAT24 drive. This is only a wild guess though.
