Are these drives the same?
I have a Jetstore 6000, a Surestore tape 6000 and I have noticed there is a Surestore DAT 8i. The Jetstore is a c1528f, the Surestore Tape 6000 is c1533a and the Dat 8i is c1528k. Are all these drives actually the same with the same features? They all appear to be 4/8 Gig drives that take DDS-2 tapes.
P.S. This thread has been moved from General to Tape Libraries and Drives. - Hp Forum moderator

Re: Are these drives the same?
The Jetstore and Surestore 6ooo are the older mechanisms. They have firmware 9608 or something. The DAT8 will have a firmware rev that starts with A like A907. This is the newer mechanism. Both will reveal themselves as a C1533 on the SCSI bus.
You can also hear the difference when they are operated. The Older mech makes klicking noises (internal head cleaner) and the newer mech will make more rattling noises (different design head cleaner)
Hope this helps.
