Autoloader 1/8 G2 Input/ouput error

I'm a newbie in tapes, so don't know where to look for answeres.
I have autoloader connected through SAS to avago megaRAID SAS 9365-28i.
OS sees both recorder and a tape :

#cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi10 Channel: 00 Id: 66 Lun: 00
Vendor: AVAGO Model: SAS35x36R Rev: 0303
Type: Enclosure ANSI SCSI revision: 05
Host: scsi10 Channel: 00 Id: 67 Lun: 00
Vendor: SMC Model: SC846P Rev: 0c1f
Type: Enclosure ANSI SCSI revision: 05
Host: scsi10 Channel: 00 Id: 68 Lun: 00
Vendor: SMC Model: SC826P Rev: 0c1f
Type: Enclosure ANSI SCSI revision: 05
Host: scsi10 Channel: 00 Id: 69 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: Ultrium 7-SCSI Rev: HB81
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 06
Host: scsi10 Channel: 00 Id: 69 Lun: 01
Vendor: HP Model: 1x8 G2 AUTOLDR Rev: 5.20
Type: Medium Changer ANSI SCSI revision: 05
Host: scsi10 Channel: 02 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: AVAGO Model: MR9365-28i Rev: 5.03
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
Host: scsi10 Channel: 02 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: AVAGO Model: MR9365-28i Rev: 5.03
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05

The status looks fine:

#mt -f /dev/st0 status
SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=0, block number=0, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x5c (LTO-7).
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (41010000):
BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN

But when I try to write something with tar, cpio, dd or use mt -f /dev/st0 tell - all I get is Input/output error.
Logs show:

[158557.662473] st 10:0:69:0: [st0] Block limits 1 - 8388608 bytes.
[158565.671050] st 10:0:69:0: [st0] Sense Key : Illegal Request [current]
[158565.671057] st 10:0:69:0: [st0] Add. Sense: Invalid field in cdb

[158866.614547] st 10:0:69:0: [st0] Error 22 (driver bt 0, host bt 0x0).

I have a feeling, I have hardware incompatibility. Can someone help me with this? Is the raid card does not support tape recorder? If it is the case, is there recommendation list for HBA SAS cards? Or perhaps the problem is easier to solve?
A big thanks to any suggestion.

Re: Autoloader 1/8 G2 Input/ouput error

Hello @KathWhite ,

I believe you are correct, the SAS card model isn't listed in the compatibility matrix. The 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader requires an HBA with multiple LUN support and should not be used with RAID or Array controllers. Here are some links that might shed some more light on the compatibility aspect:

1/8 G2 Autoloader quickspecs. Page 14 "Controller/HBA Recommendation" lists the supported HBA's with Proliant Gen 9 and 10 servers.
https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/c04123291?jumpid=in_lit-psnow-red

Compatibility matrix for OS, Server and HBA (Requires HPE Passport account for sign in): http://www.hpe.com/storage/BURAcompatibility / https://h20272.www2.hpe.com/SPOCK/Pages/spock2Html.aspx?htmlFile=hw_storeever.html

If the server is HPE then you may refer to the appropriate section in the compatibility matrix or the quickspecs above. As per the latest matrix the supported SAS HBA model for third party servers. :
Avago LSI 9217-4i4e (Equivalent OEM HBA running chipset LSI SAS2308)
