C1537A (12/24 DAT) and DDS3...
I am running Seagate backup exec 8 on NT4. I have a Compaq labled HP C1537A drive.
Backupexec can write to and read from DDS2 without a problem. When I insert DDS3, I get an unrecognizable media error and am prompted to erase the tape. If I try erase, backupexec ejects the tape and alerts me to insert another tape.
I have replaced the DAT drive.
NT sees the device as a C1537A. Backup Exec detects the device as a 12/24 drive. What could the problem be? The drive has 8 dipswitches (all are in the ON position).
Anybody who can offer assistance... please help!
Thanks

Re: C1537A (12/24 DAT) and DDS3...
"Many Drives Use an Identification String of 'C1537A' - Refer to the Actual Model Number to Obtain Parts"
So you probably do not have a C1537A, just something that identified itself as a C1537A.
I commend the following URL to you

Re: C1537A (12/24 DAT) and DDS3...
I have left the dispwitches alone as this is how the drives were shipped by Compaq to me. Dipswitch 3 (Media Recognition System) is in the ON position which I believe disables the Media Recognition System. Should I switch dipswitch 3 off?

and most surely your SCSI card drivers. We had some problems in the past with such a device and the problems were solved by upgrading the drivers from Adaptec. From what you say it shouldn't be a hardware problem. Good luck.
