I have a problem with this drive losing track of the media. The drive lights go dark as if there is no tape in it, but there is. The drive is alive on the SCSI controller but is reporting no media. I have to reboot in order to get it to kick out the media. Does anyone know of a way to force an eject without rebooting?

I believe this problem to be a flaw in the tape detect circuit.

You may be surprized but these bad things can be because of problems on SCSI bus. Try installing HP recommended addon HBA http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50063.html , do not forget about termination.
