C1537a & jamming tapes

I have an HP c1537a SCSI tape drive which frequently experiences tape jams. This usually happens halfway into a multiple tape backup job. When the tape jams, the green light at the front doesn't illuminate and the tape wont eject. Powering down the tape drive by shutting down the server and then rebooting will allow the tape to be ejected. Powering down the server is not always an option though as there are users who require access.
I have tried various tapes from different manufacturers such as Sony, HP and Imation, without luck. Is this a fault that can be repaired, or is it time to purchase a new drive?

Thanks
Brett

Re: C1537a & jamming tapes

Hi Brett,

Without additional information it is difficult to say what the issue is.

The link below describes recovering from a stuck tape situation

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg51173&locale=en_US

We have a trouble shooting guide at:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00057819&locale=en_US

which may be of some help in identifying your issue and we also have a tool called Library and Tape Tools that runs on most common operating systems that can be used to run tests, upgrade firmware and generate support tickets. Links to LTT are in the trouble shooting guide.

By all means use this to generate a support ticket and attach it to a message here, I will look over it for you.

Cheers,
