C3600 and DAT40 "C5687D" compatibility?

Hello,

I have a HP C3600 that I would like to connect an external tape drive to. I am running HP-UX 11.11.

I want to use a DAT40 tape drive model C5687D which is the external SCSI model with an LVD 160 SCSI interface. I believe my C3600 has the Ultra2 Wide 80mb/s LVD interface which the disks ride on. The DAT40 uses the Ultra160 160 mb/s LVD spec. Both have the 68 pin connection.

My question is will this drive work with my c3600? I don't see the drive listed as a supported drive for the c3600 but I see the c3700 is supported. My feeling is that the drive should operate at the speed of my Ultra2 Wide bus and not bog down or hurt the machine.

Any thoughts on this?

Thank you
J

IMHO I wouldn't hang any tape devices on the same SCSI bus that my disk drives reside on. You should have a seperate SCSI bus dedicated to your tape device. If you have the open slots, install another PCI SCSI adapter.

Re: C3600 and DAT40 "C5687D" compatibility?

Ideally I would not hang any device off of the same bus, I wouldn't still be using a C3600 or HP-UX 11.11, and I would make HP manufacture the DDS3 drive that is compatible with this model once again.

However this doesn't help in this situation.
Anyone have anything to contribute? I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Re: C3600 and DAT40 "C5687D" compatibility?

hi,

well, the dat40 will work just fine on the c3600.

dat40 probably wasnt around when the c3600 was so thats why its not on the supported list.

just make sure the scsi id's are different and do not clash
