Change Ultrium 200 to Ultrium 960

I'm planning to change my Ultrium200 tape driver to Ultrium960 tape driver but I can't understand if I have to change (buy) also a new SCSI card (what type?)for this tape driver.

I have:

Re: Change Ultrium 200 to Ultrium 960

Hi Steven,
Thanks, I see that my tape and DVD are on the same SCSI card:

ext_bus 0/0/1/0 c720 SCSI C896 Ultra Wide Single-Ended

HP Ultrium 1-SCSI 0/0/1/0.3.0 SCSI C896 Ultra Wide Single-Ended
HP DVD-ROM 305 0/0/1/0.1.0 SCSI C896 Ultra Wide Single-Ended

Well, I can't acces to your second link due to restricted acces(?) so I don't understand well the frase "recomended Ultrium320"(?). Does My L-class server could not manage the Ultrium 960?

It means that you will not be able to utilize the 960 to its full potential. You may run into an i/o bottleneck due to a slower SCSI card.
If at first you don't succeed, read the man page.

Re: Change Ultrium 200 to Ultrium 960

OK, if I understand well I have two real options(?):
1. use the same SCSI-2 card with a lost of speed;
2. buy a new SCSI-3 card (probably).

Of couse I have to upgrade a HW patch.
How can I know if I have a PCI slot for a SCSI-3 (without open the box :-))?
Does my HP-UX 11.0 has a driver for a Ultrium 960?

Thank you very much for your cooperation. It is appreciated.

Re: Change Ultrium 200 to Ultrium 960

I opened this question basically due to two dubdts:
1. I have a very old HP 9000/800/L1500 server
2. I have HP-UX 11.0

Can I use the modern Ultrium 960 tape drive?

Re: Change Ultrium 200 to Ultrium 960

If you already have a A6828 (Ultra160) card, then I'd say there's a good chance that the Ultra320 card will fit - assuming there are enough slots free..

You are likely to need a SCSI and/or stape patch to add support for Ultrium960, unless you are up to date with all the latest patches.
