Compaq 40/80 GB DLT Tape Drive- Format Impossible
Hi,
One of our servers is a dedicated backup server. The OS installed is Windows 2000 Advanced Server Service Pack 3. The tape drive installed is an internal Compaq 40/80 GB DLT Tape Drive. The backup software used is VERITAS Backup Exec 8.5. I can' t format a cartridge using the user interface of VERITAS Backup Exec 8.5. The command 'Format' is greyed out in the user interface. When I issue a format command using the command line applet of VERITAS Backup Exec 8.5, I get the following error:
Incorrect Function
A quick erase of the cartridge runs ok, a long erase not ok. What is going wrong here? Can someone help me out please?
Kind regards,
Werner

Re: Compaq 40/80 GB DLT Tape Drive- Format Impossible
Werner,
I've asked my colleague and he said that you may not have enough rights to perform format operation. You should be logged in as administrator and have enough rights within BE software

Re: Compaq 40/80 GB DLT Tape Drive- Format Impossible
May be the option is grayed out because a DLT cartridge doesn't need to be formatted first? Erasing (short or long) is enough.
