Compression does not work DAT24

I have a DAT24 drive using Arcserve 2000 on a Windows 2000 server computer. The dip switch on the drive is set for compression. I am only able to backup 12 gig not 24 on one tape.

Any suggestions?

If it's been used with some applications, they set, internally, the compression to off. Power cycle the drive.

and failing that, powercycle the drive and then run the compression test from LTT:
