I want to connect a SSL1016 Tape Autoloader to a RX4640.
The interface cable is VHDCI and I found 2 ports available on the back side of RX4640 for this port (VHDCI)
The following lines show the status of ext_bus on 4640 :
# ioscan -funC ext_bus
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
============================================================================
ext_bus 0 0/0/3/0.0 side CLAIMED INTERFACE IDE Primary Channel
ext_bus 1 0/0/3/0.1 side CLAIMED INTERFACE IDE Secondary Channel
ext_bus 2 0/1/1/0 c8xx CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C1010 Ultra160 Wide LVD A6829-60101
ext_bus 3 0/1/1/1 c8xx CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C1010 Ultra160 Wide LVD A6829-60101
ext_bus 9 0/4/1/0.1.4.0.0 fcd_vbus CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Array Interface
ext_bus 10 0/4/1/0.1.4.255.0 fcd_vbus CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Device Interface
ext_bus 11 0/4/1/0.1.5.0.0 fcd_vbus CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Array Interface
ext_bus 12 0/4/1/0.1.5.255.0 fcd_vbus CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Device Interface
ext_bus 5 0/4/1/1.1.4.0.0 fcd_vbus CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Array Interface
ext_bus 6 0/4/1/1.1.4.255.0 fcd_vbus CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Device Interface
ext_bus 7 0/4/1/1.1.5.0.0 fcd_vbus CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Array Interface
ext_bus 8 0/4/1/1.1.5.255.0 fcd_vbus CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Device Interface
ext_bus 4 0/5/1/0/4/0 ciss CLAIMED INTERFACE PCI-X SmartArray 6402 RAID Controller
/dev/ciss4

But really I don't know can I use these two external SCSI ports on 4640 for SSL1016 or not.
I have connected the autoloader to 4640 now and I changed SCSI ID of Autoloder to 13 and the SCSI ID of Tape drive to 14.
But no new device is getting detected.

Re: Connecting a SSL1016 Tape Autoloader to a RX4640
the 2 SCSI ports on the left hand side are from the internal SCSI controller.
If your internal disks are on the same bus, you may use the upper connector only for external (disk) devices, if the disks are on different busses, you must not use this 2 connectors.
Tape drives must use an add-on SCSI controller, see
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/IPF/Detail/16-0023-0025.html#CONTROLLERS
(valid for different type of drives)
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Connecting a SSL1016 Tape Autoloader to a RX4640
Thank you so much for your help
I'm going to add a Dual channel Ultra320 SCSI HBA (A7173A) to rx4640
Do you have any idea about SCSI ID on SSL1016 tape autoloader ?
Thanks.

Re: Connecting a SSL1016 Tape Autoloader to a RX4640
If you have an DLT/SDLT drive, the ID is AFAIR 4. If you have an ultrium tape, you need an ID for the loader and one for the drive. The values are 4 and 5.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
