Converting LVDs Library to HVDs

Does anyone know if we can convert an HP lvds library that has 2 dlt 8000s (lvds) to an HVDs library by swapping out the LVDs interface card to the HVDs interface card? And if so, would we need 1 or 2 of these cards? Any help is appreciated.

Hvd or Lvd is the electrical interface of the external Scsi bus, so you need a controller card and each drives with this interface plus the terminator, the other components are not interested by this and can be kept same as original

Eric,

Which library are we looking at here? How do you intend to conect it - that is, which devices do you want to conect to which host busses? This will have a bearing on whether such a change would work (assuming you can replace the interfaces with HVD ones), due to bus bandwidth issues.

Re: Converting LVDs Library to HVDs

You could convert the library interface to HVDS by getting a replacement controller but it would confuse tech support if you ever called in and gave them your serial number. Converting the drives to HVDS is much more expensive though. Unless there is some reason you can't load a LVDS controller in your host I wouldn't try converting the library to HVDS.

If you absolutly have to convert the library to HVDS the quickest option and maybe the cheapest is LVD to HVD convertors from a company like Paralan. The next option would be replacing the drives and controller. If you have to pursue that path post back here.
