DAT 72 Internal Cleaning Cycle

DAT 72 Internal Cleaning Cycle

problem with the drive going offline for several seconds for internal head cleaning while recording and/or playing.
I need access to the SCSI comand reference to see if it is possible to turn off (or delay) this cleaning cycle. I am streaming real time data to/from the tape and can only allow up to 5 or 6 seconds of drive inactivity. I need to defer this internal cleaning cycle until after I have finished my real time activity.
Any ideas on how to do this would be appreciated.
Questions applies to all DAT drives, not just the 72.

Re: DAT 72 Internal Cleaning Cycle

The internal cleaning cycle is the consequence of a reading problem on the

tape, after some try the drive runs a cleaning process to see it solve.
For what I know there is no way to disable this feature.
The way to prevent is to always use know good tapes, and clean regularly the

r/w head with a cleaning tape (once every 5 backup is the HP

recommendation) if you use the tape for streaming, the cleaning cycle will be

once every 5 complete tape reading. Doing this you will always have efficient

r/w Head and if your cartridge is changed regularly, you will avoid the

annoyance of the internal cleaning cycle
