DAT Media issue

Can anyone tell me why my Internal DAT 12/24 will only accept 90m DDS tapes and not 120m DDS tapes. Model: C1537- 00458.
It will not even format the 120m DDS3 tapes

I experienced exactly the same problem on my drive. These drives are HP drives. I contaced HP regarding the problem and they inform me that switch 3 on the dipswitch bank beneath the drive should be in the OFF position. Compaq ships the drives with all switches in the ON position. Nobody at Compaq could give me a reason why their drives are shipped this way. Switch 3 is in fact used for Media Recognition. When in the OFF position, the drive looks at the tape header to determine what media is currently loaded. I hope this helps.

Do a search for "4586NP" and you should find a lot of info on DAT drives, media..
