DAT Tape Drive problems

I have a HP 24GB internal SCSI DAT drive, it ia about 2.5 years old. I clean the drive once a week with a cleaning tape. Now I get a flashing clean light every day. I have cleaned 5 times back to back but I still get media errors.

I have purchased new media and still get errors. I notice the drive does make strange noises.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Thanks

Tony

Re: DAT Tape Drive problems

If it's under support, have HP replace it, else purchase a new one, unless HP thinks they can repair it cheaper.

Re: DAT Tape Drive problems

The drive needs replacement. Be aware that tapes written to on this drive may not be able to be read by other drives, including the replacement drive. Use another drive if available.

Re: DAT Tape Drive problems

Each time you run the cleaning tape, it actually grind a thin layer out from the tape head. If you cleaned it too much, the tape drive will eventually totally worn out. Try to clean it once every two weeks, if the tape drive clean light not comes on.
