DAT72 - Tapes are ejected when inserted

Every time I put a tape in my drive, it spins about for about 30 seconds and then ejects it. This is happening with every tape I insert.

It worked fine for about a month and then it started doing this. I replaced all the tapes and these new tapes worked again for about a month and now it is doing it again.

I am only backing up about 15Gb of data. Has anyone run into this before?

Hi,

have you already inserted a cleaning tape during this time?

Re: DAT72 - Tapes are ejected when inserted

Hi Volkmar,

Yes, after the first set of tapes stopped working (ejecting), i ran the cleaning tape, it seemed to work successfully, but the tapes continued to eject after inserting them. I purchased a second set of tapes and they worked for a couple of weeks, but now these are ejecting after about 20-30 seconds.

Re: DAT72 - Tapes are ejected when inserted

Hi,

sorry, can't help more - maybe anybody else?

Seems like a drive replacement should be done. Do you have support for this tape drive?
Do you have L&TT? Take a look at http://www.hp.com/support/lttfaq for a Windows FAQ.

Re: DAT72 - Tapes are ejected when inserted

Hi,

Try a catalog repair

1. Close Data Protector Express
2. Stop the Data Protector Express Service
3. open cmd
4. goto programm files\hp\data protector express
5. type dpwinsvc ├в x
6. change the dpconfig.ini file find it under hp\data protector express\config
7. under insert the following string repairDatabase=Yes
8. Save the file and close it
9. Start Data Protector Express
The catalog repair will run automatically. After the repair have completed, the logon screen will appear.
10. Restart the Data Protector Express Service
11. open cmd
12. goto programm files\hp\data protector express
13. type dpwinsvc ├в s

that├в s all

Re: DAT72 - Tapes are ejected when inserted

Hi,

Can you tell us what's the software you're using.
When the tape is ejected, are you getting any kind of message from the backup software?

Another thing I'd like to know is, does the tape drive eject the tape when there's not any job running?

If it does, try to disconnect the cable SCSI/USB and check if it will do the same thing.
