DL580 G2 and MSL2024

Hi,

I am looking at buying a MSL2024 for my DL580 G2. The server only got the standard Smart Array 642 installed and I have been told that I need to buy an extra SCSI card instead of connecting it to the SA642. So I just want to make sure which SCSI card is compatible between my DL580 G2 and the MSL2024.

Thanks in advance.

Re: DL580 G2 and MSL2024

Steven:

Depending on your model...

HP SC44Ge Host Bus Adapter - 416096-B21

or

HP U320e SCSI Host Bus Adapter - AH627A

...should do the trick.

Re: DL580 G2 and MSL2024

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the info.
I am still trying to find a compatibility matrix for the HBAs vs ProLiant servers, but no avail. yet ..

By the way, I am currently using Backupexec 9.1, looks like I need to upgrade to 10.0d if I need to use the MSL2024 ..

Have you been able to get your MSL2024 to work properly? We just put two of them in and after a couple weeks of working on them we have not been able to successfully use them.

Re: DL580 G2 and MSL2024

Both of our servers are running windows 2003 r2 Enterprise Edition SP2. Backup software is Backup Exec 11d rev. 7170. When we start the backups they fail with "e00084ed- a hardware error occurred." On both of our MSL2024's.
Here are some oof the things we tried:

1. Upgrading from Backup Exec ver. 12 , updating all the client agents to ver. 12. Did not work.

2.Changed back and forth from HP drivers to Symantec Drivers on the tape drives. Did not work. Currently we are using Symantec ver. 5.1 drivers.

3.Uninstalled Backup Exec and re-installed version 11d revision 7170. Still does not work

Re: DL580 G2 and MSL2024

Interesting thing that happens is that one of our servers can do real short backups Ok, but given a longer one it can't handle it. The other identical tape drive and server can not do either without failing.

Re: DL580 G2 and MSL2024

We are using a MSL2024 with BackupExec 11d and it works fine using the Symantec drivers, it wouldn't work using the HP drivers.

Re: DL580 G2 and MSL2024

I managed to get an answer to my problem from HP. Apparent the Adaptec SCSI card controllers (39160/3960D-Ultra 160 SCSI)are not compatible with the MSL2024. Funny enough, The card they recommend is not compatible with our two servers (DL580 G2). Had us laughing all day on that one.
