DLT 35/70 Flashing Leds

I have an Compaq DLT 7000 35/70GB drive.

Whenever I am trying to load media, all righthand leds starts flashing after a while.
If I press the unload buttom, the drive re initilizes and start move the media, forward and reverse, and the lights comes on again.

This is not a dropped leader problem, since I have checked this.
The cartridge is new and seems to be OK.

Re: DLT 35/70 Flashing Leds

Hi Tomas,

If all LEDs on the right hand side are flashing this usually means a servo or mechanical problem. And often indicates a dropped leader, since you've verified that the leader is intact it could very well be a motor issue. There's not much we can do about this kind of problem besides checking the firmware.

You can check the firmware using HP Storage Works Library and Tape Tools. This can be downloaded from the following website:

http://www.hp.com/support/lttdownload

Hope this helps.

Re: DLT 35/70 Flashing Leds

I have tested the drive with the L&TT tool.
the result is Passed on all tests, on those occations when the media is loaded correctly.

Hi Tomas,

Was the firmware up to date?

Which test did you do? Was it the drive assessment test, or a read write test?

Re: DLT 35/70 Flashing Leds

The firmware is updated, I did all tests.

Strange things, when I have the drive sitting on my desk, with only power connected, it seems to load/unload OK, but when I put it in the box, it starts to missbehave.

Re: DLT 35/70 Flashing Leds

One thought though, It might be that the problems occured after FW upgrade.
Is there any differences between the HP/Compaq FW and the version on Quantums homepage.

Now I tried to downgrade the FW to the previous 097 version, but L&TT will not allow me to do this, it seems that I need some sort of PW, if so where can I get it?

Re: DLT 35/70 Flashing Leds

could you generate a Sticket and attach it here?

The cause may also be that the power is not enough, and the device is continusly rebooting.

try to attach it on another power supply

Re: DLT 35/70 Flashing Leds

ok, looks like your dlt is overheeting

this is the error logged when all led light

Event # 23 - Packet # 204 - SCSI Event: Over-temperature condition

you need to cool the drive when in the server this may damage also the tapes, and you may have trouble with those tapes in the future

Re: DLT 35/70 Flashing Leds

I think that one happend when the box was opened, is there any way to reset and clear the errorlog of the drive, so I can find out what is new and what is old.
