DLT 40 needs two tapes for 31gb of info
When backing up our NT4 server to a SureStore DLT40 two 40/80 tapes are required to save 31 gigs of data. This happens with Tapeware and with NT Backup. The drive is set for 20:1 density and compression is on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: DLT 40 needs two tapes for 31gb of info
Dear David,
The amount that your data can be compressed depends upon its structure. Highly random files do not compress and in fact take more space to store. The capacity of the drive is 20GB native (ie without compression). You are correct to use the 20GB setting on the front panel. If tapes have been used on say a DLT30 tape drive which is a lower density then you should select 20GB and the density override will blink.
