DLT 7000/8000 compatibility.

Greetings,

I have made a NT backup with a DLT IV on a DLT8000 drive (40/80Gb) using NT backup.

I want to restore it on a host with a DLT7000 or DLT4000...

Will it work?

TIA,

Kind Regards,

Rui.

Re: DLT 7000/8000 compatibility.

Hello,

It should work with a DLT7000. It won't work with a DLT4000.

Re: DLT 7000/8000 compatibility.

More information...

Basically, a DLT7000 and a DLT8000 write using the same format, whereas a DLT4000 uses a different format, so it can't read them.

BUT, a DLT7000 or DLT8000 can read a tape made from a DLT4000 drive.

Re: DLT 7000/8000 compatibility.

Hello again,

You mentioned a DLT IV tape. I'm afraid that won't work with a DLT7000 or DLT4000 if it is written with a DLT8000. It could work with DLT III.

Sorry,
Vince

Re: DLT 7000/8000 compatibility.

Point of clarification on this.

- DLT IV tapes can be used in all of the DLT products, with the exception of the DLT 30.

- You will be able to read data that is backed up in a DLT 8000, as long as you write in the corresponding format. For instance, if you are wanting a DLT 70 to read the data from a DLT 8000, then using the compression selector on the front panel, you would select 30/70.
