DIFFERENTIAL SCSI TAPE DRIVE, can you give details/part number of the SCSI
terminator that connects to the 3U rack mount that the above drive slots
into and also the correct SCSI cable that would connect the 3U rack mount
to an Adaptec 2940UW SCSI card.
I intend to use the backup option on XP pro, will this do the job??
Are there manuals available?
Mike

Solutionthe drive, you said, is a FastWideDifferntial, the HBA 2940w is a SE/LVD controller, what you need is a 2944 that have the same scsi interface, and a terminator FastWide, also called High Voltage Differential (HVD)
the cable is indiferent

Re: DLT 7000 type C6375A and C4318B 3U rackmount assembly
I was able to find the following info on DLT 35/70 drives (DLT 7000) in the archives:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/Division_10-2000/10235_div.PDF
I would recommend an Ultra 160 controller. Probably would go witht he Adaptec 29160, it is recommended for most early tape storage products. Staty waya from teh 2940 card becasue it is no longer really supported by adaptec on Win 2003 etc... and it usually just causes detection issues used on newer OS's.
Usually adaptec leaves the bios on the card open so you can change the sync transfer rate on the drive to 40mb/s (which is the burst rate of the drive). I am not sure how well the DLT 7000 drive would work on Win XP pro, but if the drive is detected by the controller on POST you might be able to get it recognized by the OS.
Which back up software are you planning on using?
What are (if any) the challenges with the drive at present?

For a 3U HP rack I was able to find this documentation:

Re: DLT 7000 type C6375A and C4318B 3U rackmount assembly
just to make you aware,
C6375A = 35/70GB DLT 7000 Fast Wide Differential SCSI tape drive module - Full height
Differential is the name of the HVD before the LVD came out,
the first connectivity standard for the phisical layer where Differential and Single Ended
Then, the low voltage differential (LVD) came out, and to distinguish the previous called Differntial
standard was renamed High Voltage Differential (HVD)
Now we can have HVD (now obsolete) LVD and SE (also obsolete) as standards for Parallel scsi connections
so if you see only Differential this mean HVD.
That is why the recommanded card is a 2944 FW (Fast/wide) (do not need 160 because the speed of the tape interface cannot reach that) ;-))
Anyway, hope Mike solve his problem

Re: DLT 7000 type C6375A and C4318B 3U rackmount assembly
You were 100% correct, I purchased an adaptec 2944 and the terminator you stated, I used my original SCSI cable as you suggested, I installed them and all works perfectly.
Many thanks for you help and advice.

Re: DLT 7000 type C6375A and C4318B 3U rackmount assembly
To avoid conflicts on a newer OS, the 29160 card is recommended, then you can change the sync transfer or enable wide negotiation settings as desired in that bios.
