DLT VS 40/80 Compression

I am backing up a server using ntbackup (not my choice of software, have to use what I'm told) and I'm having a problem with compression on a DLT VS 40/80 tape drive. The backup wants to span at 40GB almost exactly. I have checked the settings and hardware compression is enabled by ntbackup. I have also checked to make sure the data being backed up can be compressed, and it can. Through testing it would appear I can attain at least 1.5/1 compression ratio. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what I might be able to check or adjust to see if I can get just a little more data on the tape.

Re: DLT VS 40/80 Compression

Please see my thread here for compression issues

Also to add, compression is subjective and will be majorly affected by data set, if you ahve non text to back up you will not get a very good compression ratio.

Please read the article I posted at the above link for more info on this.

Hope it helps!
