DLT VS 40/80 cannot read ANY tape

Hello all,
my brand new DLT VS 40/80 cannot read any tape. When I enter a tape, it is "readed" for a while and ejected. Orange LED flashes. Where can be problem? NT4 recognized the drive correctly..

Thanks for any advice.

Re: DLT VS 40/80 cannot read ANY tape

Hello,

What kind of tapes are you using? In what type of format are they written? VS80 tape drives cannot read tapes written by DLT8000; only backward-read-compatible to DLT4000.

Re: DLT VS 40/80 cannot read ANY tape

Uh, tapes are "DLTtape IV" written by "Compaq 35/70 GB DLT DEC(TZ89)"... I do not know how to "format" a tape for specific format. In w2k /computer_management/storage/removable_storage/physical_location/DLTdrive/media I can "prepare" the medium, but this does not give me a chance to choose any format..

What am I doing wrong??

Re: DLT VS 40/80 cannot read ANY tape

Hello,

DLT7000 tapes are not compatible with the vs80, only DLT4000 are read-compatible.

In order to use your DLTIV tapes written by a DLT7000 in a vs80 tape drive, you need to degauss them.

Otherwise, there is no way you can write on them, or read from them, using a vs80 drive.
