DLT and SAN

I have a DLT E 2/20 with two Ultrium drives connected to a Brocade 2800 switch in a SAN environment.
I use Omniback configured according to Administrator's Guide.

Randomly but often a tape remains blocked in a drive and I need to cycle power and unload drive manually.

Where can I indagate for the cause of this problem?

Thanks in advance

Re: DLT and SAN

Does more than one host use the tape drive?

Do you have SCSI Reserve/Release DISABLED for both the robotics and the drive?

Do you have direct library access turned OFF?

Make sure your hosts have the kernel parameter st_ats_enabled set to zero

Re: DLT and SAN

Yes, more than one host (four)uses drives.

Yes, SCSI Reserve/Release is disabled (and checkbox is grayed and not selectable) everywhere.

Direct library access is turned everywhere.

Kernel parameter st_ats_enabled is set to zero for every host.

Other suggestion?
Need I to check with HP support the EMS error?

Thanks again

Re: DLT and SAN

Hi,

You *need* to have EMS turned off
for SCSI on tape drives or you
will have big problems. Another
very important thing is to make
sure that you the very *latest*
firmware installed. There has
been some major problems fixed
in regards to tape drives and
FC. Look at the firmware issues
from end to end.

Re: DLT and SAN

I think that EMS is a serious candidate for my problem!
I disabled dm_stape polling and I hope this solve the issue.

Thanks a lot.
