DLT vs80 & DLT1 Compatibility

I have a DLT vs 80 and a Surestore 718 (DLT auto-loader). Are these drives compatible?
i can't use tapes in one device that are used for backup in another, ie use a 35/70gb tape in the 718 and try and read it in the vs80.

anybody help ?

Re: DLT vs80 & DLT1 Compatibility

Peter,

Tapes written in a DLT1 or DLT vs80 are not compatible with DLT70 (which is in your 718) or DLT80 drives.

Take a look at this website for mor info:

Re: DLT vs80 & DLT1 Compatibility

The DLT1 and DLT VS80 can only read DLT4000 format media. They use regular DLT IV media, but not if they are used in DLT7000 or DLT8000 format. The DLT1 and DLT VS80 doesn??t use regular DLT cleaning cartridges - you will have to use specific DLT1 cleaning cartridges.

does ayone know if it is possible for a DLT8000 to read DLT IV tapes written by a DLT1 drive (HP DLTvs80 specifically)?

Nope, not possible.

DLT1 writes data in a completely different manner than DLT8000. So you wouldn't read a DLT1-written tape on a DLT8000 drive.
