Re: DLT4000 2/5 with hp-ux 11.0
HP's DLT4000 libraries were the 4115, 4215, 4228, and 4448.

Re: DLT4000 2/5 with hp-ux 11.0
I am not sure about if the schgr driver should be used for the picker. I have always used the sctl driver. When using the sctl driver the picker is listed as UNKNOWN AND UNCLAIMED but everything works. Below is a the output from ioscan and the devicefile for the picker from one of our librarys.
crw-rw-r-- 1 root sys 203 0x006000 Feb 8 2003 /dev/picker2
unknown -1 0/0/1/0.6.0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN OVERLANDLXB

The correct driver for the c720 is sctl.
If you add the schgr driver, then it will show as claimed in the IOSCAN. I believe that schgr is also required for STM access.
From the backup app, you communicate directly with the sctl driver.
I asked about the specific model info. If it is a 2 drive 15 slot, it should be a 4215.
Can you tell me how the unit is physically cabled? The library has two SCSI busses. One is for the library and drive 1, and the other is for drive 2. You can daisy chain them all together, or put them on separate busses (for higher performance).
If you are only seeing one of the two drives, I suspect only the second bus is cabled up. There are also switches to select HVD or SE (which is LVD compatible), and to enable internal termination.
If that info doesn't help you resolve it yourself, please provide the cabling, termination, and switch settings.
Here's the users guide which has cabling and switch setting diagrams:

Re: DLT4000 2/5 with hp-ux 11.0
Now, there are 8 SCSI connectors on the back of the unit.
On the top part of the unit, there are 4 scsi connectors. Two are for setting the drives to single ended, and two are for setting the drives to Fast/Wide differential. From the above, it looks like that one is set correctly.
How are you connecting the bottom set? With a different scsi chain or in a single chain with the top unit? I notice we only see ONE dlt4000, whereas we should see TWO.
Make sure that the little dip switches (in the middle of the 8 scsi connectors) are set correctly for either SE or FWD.
The robotics are on the same chain as the DLT4000s, and since you only see one DLT4000, it means that the second set of drives is not connected. Try again and let us know.

SolutionYou can either connect them to seperate FWD buses on your HP9000, or you can daisy-chain them.
Once that is done, then you will see both DLT4000s and the robot picker.
It will show up in /dev/rac
After performing either a reboot or an ioscan followed by an insf command.
Have fun
