DLT8000 connecting to K360

Im thinking about purchasing a dlt8000 to hook up to my K360. I was wondering if someone could give information on the recomended way to attach to my system? Can I hook it to my core I/O FW scsi connection or if I would have to purchase an HP-PB(28696A) FW card or HSC FW card? I was told that I could not hook it to the core IO FW scsi if I had any internal FW drives, is this true?
Thanks for you help!

Re: DLT8000 connecting to K360

regardless of how many FWD drives you have in the front internal drive bay in the K boxes, you are still able to use the FWD port on the core I/O board for external FWD devices, there is also an HSC expansion port on the core I/O that you can stick an A2969A FWD 20MB/Second card in if you needed two FWD ports.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Just make sure that there is no mismatches with the SCSI. HVD is common on older HP-UX servers and is NOT compatible with SE or LVD.

Re: DLT8000 connecting to K360

thanks for your help! I am going to buy the dlt8000 with an hp-pb(28696A)card just to be safe. I found other threads that mentioned drives slowing down when attaching the dlt to core i/o. better safe than sorry.
Thanks!

Re: DLT8000 connecting to K360

Hello Daniel,

I need to stop you here, do not use a HP-PB card 28696A, because a DLT 8000 would not work on it. The reason is the driver, DLT 8000 drives would only work with the stape driver, which is not working with the old card.

Here older questions, which contains some answers:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=604082
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=147656

To give a short summary:
DLT 8000 single ended SCSI or LVD makes no sense, K class has only an internal SCSI bus, which would work with it(driver), still not supported.
DLT 8000 HVD (High voltage Differential) would work only on the A2969A HP-HSC FWD SCSI-2 adapter, because the stape driver is needed (tape2 driver does not work with DLT 7000, DLT 8000, LTO, DDS 4, etc).
Another way would be via fiberchannel, there would be also a solution for LVD drives than.

I hope that answers your question and stops your to buy the wrong stuff,
Ralf.
