Re: Dat Drive SCSI id settings and dip switch settings

I am working on an old aces tower server running on linex os. I have chaged the HP dat drive twice now but it keeps comming up withthe dat drive busy. I was going to cx the id from 3 to 5 to see if that makes any difference but there is no pin config on the drives. It is ok to copy the setting from one to the new one but could not find the pin config for other addresses.
I have the settings for normal 7 pairs but not single row and dip switches.

That sounds like the system hasn't been reconfigured after you've modified the drive. My guess is that either some other application is using the DAT drive as soon as you boot or that the SCSI ID which used to be addressed by your /dev/rmt entry is now used by something else - something which is in use, and which would probably get very confused when you give it tape commands.
A sysadmin should never cross his fingers in the hope commands will work. Makes for a lot of mistakes while typing.

Thanks as suspected there was a sofware prob.
The system had locked the files. Once I worked out which it was all a ok.
Cheers By the way the link to hp did not work
