I have just installed Data Protector Express Single Server Edition on a new ML310 server using a USB DAT 72 tape drive. After installing the software I get a message that a service cannot start after the server reboots and notice that the Data Protector Express service hangs while trying to start. Eventually it will start.
Any ideas why the service will not start right away or how I can start it before running a backup job?

Solution
There is a problem in some of the early builds of Single Server Edition that causes the service to timeout on startup while it's waiting for another Windows process to start.
Go to http://www.hp.com/go/dataprotectorexpress/sse and download Service Pack 4. Install using the "Upgrade" function of the install menu.
This will probably resolve the problem.
