Data Protector can only restroe from the most recent tape?

I have 10 rotating media tapes. I recently deleted some files that I wanted to restore from a few days earlier. I inserted the tape that contained the correct files and created a restore job to restore the group of deleted files. However, the program reported that the media was incorrect. Only the last backup tape was accepted and this did not contain the files I wanted. The Data Protector Single Server documentation suggests that any media can be used to restore files. But I have not been successful. Have I missed something?
