Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030

I am trying to install (on W2K Adv Svr) a dds4 tape drive that identifies itself as "HP IBM-C568303030!D SCSI Sequential Device". I am not able to find a device driver for it.

I understand that there has been a discussion on this exact topic before in the forum, but there was no clear instruction on how to rectify the problem. Would anyone who has experience with this tape drive please give me some pointers on how to install it. My email is patrick@computerbrokers.com.sg.

Many thanks and best regards.

Patrick:

You can find the drivers on the TapeTools ISO from IBM:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-39400

Hope this helps! -john

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030

Out of curiousity, what's the Type and Model marked on the drive? 7206 Model 220? Which is for RS/6000 aka pSeries running AIX which has the necessary driver built in?

Thanks,
Scott

Patrick:

Give this SoftPAQ a try: There is a generic DDS4 driver in it:

Enjoy!

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030

Hi John & Scott,

I downloaded the SoftPAQ, but I am not able to install the W2K driver. I got a message saying that a suitable driver is not found.

The drive doesn't show tye type and model. Some of the information are as follows:
"PRODUCT NUMBER: C5683-03041"
"IBM FRU NUMBER: 19P0802"
"IBM PART NUMBER: 19P0798"
"MODEL # Made for IBM CORP. ARMONK, NY. by Hewlett packard"

Any other suggestion?

Thanks & Regards,
Patrick

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030

hi patrick,

i had the same problem a few months ago. anyway, i was able to use it with the driver attached. you have to force W2K to accept the driver.

device will show as "Hewlett Packard DDS4 drive" on Device Manager after installation.

i've been using it eversince with W2K backup with no problems.

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030

Hi Benito,

Thanks for your reply. As you suggested, I force-installed the driver you posted. However, it still doesn't work. Two scenarios resulted:

1. The backup program in W2K gave me an error message that says it cannot recognize any media in the drive.

2. I used another backup program, which rewinded the tape and wrote a bit to it, but then it stopped. The only error message is that it has aborted.

Any other suggestion?

Thanks,
Patrick

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030

I would suggest to run some diagnostic tool:

StorageworksLibrary&TapeTools from HP will help in troubleshooting, you can post the Sticket here (in Zip Mode)for analysis

Re: Driver for DDS4 C5683-03030

Hi Marino,

Thanks for the suggestion. I run the Tape Tool and it showed the following description:

Manufacturer: HP
Product ID: IBM-C568383838!D
Description: Tape
Firmware Revision: C209
SCSI Port Numer: 4/0
SCSI Target ID: 1
SCSI LUN: 0
Driver: \\.\Tape0

"L&TT does not support this device"

I cannot tell anything from the description. Can anyone spot any problem?

Thanks,
Patrick
