ESL9198 - wrong firmware loaded

We have an older ESL9198 (Opal/Compaq)with a 2MB NVRAM module on the robotics controller card. I tried to download V3.6 firmware to this module (in error!) using Libdiag. (The V3.6 code needs the 5MB module fitted). The module now seems 'dead' and any attempt to force a download of the correct (V2.3) code fails.
My questions are: Did my attempt to load code which is larger than the capacity of the 2MB module cause an overwrite of a protected area of the NVRAM ??.....is this module recoverable, and if so - how ??
