ESL9326 and SDLT110/220

Hi ,

I replaced a faulty SDLT 110/220 on a ESL9326 SL
The Faulty had the P/N 241567-002 while the new
one has the part no: 241567-001 .

On switching on the library after initialization , when we check the drive from
the operators console , we get the drive status
as "unknown".
We have checked the drive slot and it is OK.
Tried refitting the drive - no success.

any suggestions pls ?

thanks & regards

Re: ESL9326 and SDLT110/220

Hi Dominic

I had the same problem at a custumer site.
The Lib still "thinks" the old drive is in there ('because of the "serialisation").
I fitted the faulty drive in (not nessesary) and completely removed it with the libtool (commandline) from the 9326 cd. Than fitted the new drive. If you use DP or specialily with Netbackup DC. Run the device config again or at the new drive manualy.
Lots of backup apps use "drive serialization"

Hope this helps......

Re: ESL9326 and SDLT110/220

Hi Brian ,

Thanks for the suggestions .
We use Veritas netbackup 4.5 MP6 .
Can we delete and add the SDLT from Veritas
even though we cannot see it (status unknown)
on the ESL OCP Console it self .

Is there any way i can delete the drive and
re configure it using Library and Tape tools
-LTT ?

sincere regards
Dominic

Re: ESL9326 and SDLT110/220

Hi Dominic

No,... you have to see a correct serialnumber on your 9326 touchpanel before the serialization executes correctly in NBU.
The device config in NBU uses the serialnummer as it is in the Library inorder to install your drive correctly as a recognised tapedrive.
I assume you have a NSR 2400 in the lib, check this as well.
There is a pdf that tells you exactly how to replace a defective drive.I think its the maintenance guide.

Re: ESL9326 and SDLT110/220

I would suggest to reboot the NSR, under some circumstances, he do not update the replaced drive, so you get still the old drive mapped in your system, and he is not present yet.

Re: ESL9326 and SDLT110/220

Are you sure you're not dealing with a defective drive, even if just replaced?

Have you tried to seat the drive in a different slot, putting a known-good drive in the slot where the defective one was?
Maybe the drive itself is not the real problem.... There is a small board above the drive location inside the library, partially hidden: the only visible part of that board is the rear connector. In some circumstances i saw (rare) problems on that board

Let us know

Re: ESL9326 and SDLT110/220

Make sure the drive is the right drive. You mentioned different part numbers...

I had a customer that tried to upgrade an older DLT ESL library with SDLT drives and there were 2 types of drives you can use... HVD and LVD. If you got an HVD and the rest are LVD, your sure to have a problem and vice versa...
